Perhaps one day - if the great Apple, Inc. can pull off a true miracle - they will allow us to declare certain iCloud directories as *permanently downloaded*, and we will finally be able to trust our machines and ourselves.

If you’re talking about files in iCloud Drive, they just added a “Keep Downloaded” option that will keep the selected file or folder permanently stored on the device’s storage. 👍🏻

In all sincerity, I am genuinely excited for this. I appreciate your prompt diligence and should probably append to my (bitter, I guess) comment that it was not said in any illusion of being superior to its subject bizarre computing existence: I've been using iPadOS as my primary operating system by choice (mostly) for years, now.

The closest I have to an actually *useful*/relevant comment:

I've been living with an iPhone 15 Pro since it came out and was disappointed/borderline offended at how little advantage Apple bothered to take of USB-C's capabilities. Neither iPad Professional nor the handset seem able to actually do any genuinely useful file transfer to/from say, the 128GB USB-C XXVIII flash drive I bought thinking I was going to experience truly 21st-century handset I/O.

This is a powerful step for mobile. Being able to do 'big boy' tasks like file management gets us closer to being the Matt Farrell character in "Live Free and Die Hard," coding exotic tasks from his mobile phone.

This is absolutely fascinating, because it means Apple are serious about turning iDevices into power user products.
